-
Devices including one or more metal prongs designed for electrical and mechanical connection. These devices usually consist of an insulated covering with conductive metallic male prongs (typically made of brass and other copper alloys) which are connected internally to one or more cords that extend from the other side of the plug. Most common electric plugs have two or three (e.g., live, neutral, earth) prongs; they are mainly used to connect electrical equipment (e.g., instruments, diagnostic and therapeutic devices) to the main electrical supply. Explosion-proof, ground connection, hospital grade, and locking electric plugs are also available.
