Pumps designed to deliver liquids (i.e., irrigate) to a cavity or other specific area of the body. These pumps typically consist of a central unit with a pumping (e.g., peristaltic) mechanism; a control (e.g., a valve, clamp, or manual or foot-switch) to regulate the rate of the irrigation; and detachable (frequently disposable) tubing appropriate for irrigation of the intended body cavity or area. Irrigation pumps intended for particular equipment such as surgical, dental, and nasal irrigators are available; dedicated irrigation pumps intended for use with appropriate tubing coupled to irrigation catheters or cannulae are also available.
