  • High-definition video monitors designed to simultaneously display multiple electronic images with a definition that is high enough for examination and/or diagnosis of each medical image (e.g., radiographic, ultrasonic, MRI). These devices display images either in real time as they are obtained using a dedicated video camera or, more frequently, from a digital computer or computerized information system or workstation. These monitors typically include an input multiplexer (either as an integral part or separate accessory) that can manage multiple video signals (usually at least 16) and allow the user to simultaneously display a subset of them (e.g., 8 or more); additional electronic circuitry to process the video signals; and a large (e.g., 60 inch/1.5 meter or larger) screen (e.g., liquid crystal or plasma) to display simultaneously the selected images. The monitors have usually a resolution of at least 5 megapixels. Medical image high-definition video monitors are used to display images with a definition that is good enough to assess medical (e.g., radiologic) images and to perform diagnostic interpretation.
