Foot orthoses designed to facilitate and/or make possible gait for patients with rigid deformities of the foot by providing additional control and comfort. These orthoses typically consist of a prefabricated or custom-made device made of soft, semi-rigid, and/or rigid materials (e.g., fabrics, plastics, foam, steel) or a combination of these. Most foot orthoses used for gaiting are permanently attached to the shoe (i.e., shoe modifiers); foot supports used to facilitate gait are also available.
