Therapeutic ankle-foot orthoses designed to prevent plantar flexion contractures by keeping the ankle in a neutral position (i.e., anti-footdrop orthoses) during therapeutic treatments. These orthoses typically consist of a prefabricated semi-rigid device with a padded structure with straps that extends along the distal part of the leg and encircles the foot. Anti-footdrop orthoses are intended mainly for treatment of patients with spinal cord injuries; they are typically used only during the night.
