?:definition
  • Therapeutic hip orthoses designed to provide support to the hip joint during nocturnal therapeutic treatment of ambulatory children, promoting acetabular growth and improving range of motion. These orthoses may consist of a variety of prefabricated or custom-made devices that keep the hip joint in an abducted position while the child is on a bed (i.e., during night sleeping time). Also available are foam wedges either isolated or integral to the mattress that are placed between the child\'s legs and custom-made orthoses with adjustable abduction angle (e.g., Hope orthosis). Night-use abduction orthoses are used in children with hip subluxation, frequently due to spastic quadriplegia.
