Wrist-hand upper-limb orthoses designed for external modification of the structural and/or functional characteristics of the wrist joint and the hand during therapeutic treatment. These orthoses may provide static (i.e., with the wrist joint immobilized) or dynamic (i.e., permitting a controlled and limited wrist joint movement) therapy. Static therapy orthoses are typically prefabricated devices consisting of a plastic splint that runs from the tip of the fingers to the distal part of the forearm (e.g., a platform splint). Dynamic therapy orthoses that include a semi-rigid structure with an articulated orthotic joint (e.g., hinged) are also available. Dynamic therapy orthoses are placed at the wrist to regulate the range of movement.
