?:definition
  • Elbow therapeutic orthoses designed to provide a force and torque across the elbow joint increasing its motion and permitting a limited and adjustable range of motion of the joint by means of a dynamic splint. These orthoses are typically prefabricated devices consisting of soft cuffs fixed at the arm and forearm, multiple straps, and an adjustable mechanical joint placed at the elbow to regulate the range of the elbow movement. Dynamic splint elbow orthoses are used after surgery, trauma, or brain injuries; they are used also after cast removal for stable fractures. Dedicated orthoses consisting of articulated splints and/or using ratchet mechanisms are also available.
