Thoracic flexible orthoses designed to encircle the complete thorax to provide support to the muscles and bones and to keep the anterior part of the thorax in appropriate position. These devices are usually made of wide pieces of elastic fabric with hook-and-loop closures (e.g., Velcro) for adjustment of their size; the orthoses are usually reinforced with metallic stays for appropriate support of the muscles and thoracic bones. Whole thorax orthoses are used mainly to support and compress the chest muscles, sternum, ribs, and/or other chest anatomical structures for rehabilitation from traumatic injuries (e.g., bone fracture) and/or to provide relief from pain and strain.
