Sacroiliac spine support orthoses consisting of a garment of soft or semi-rigid materials (i.e., corsets) that are designed to provide limited support and some degree of movement restriction of the sacral and iliac segments of the spine providing assistance to the pelvis. These orthoses usually consist of inelastic garments made of soft fabric (e.g., canvas), plastic (e.g., Dacron), or combinations of these that are usually reinforced with metal (e.g., stainless steel) stays. Sacroiliac support corsets can be fitted for tight encircling of the sacroiliac spine, surrounding the pelvis below the waist and over the pubis providing support and limited restriction of the lumbar and sacral spine lateral and rotational motion; they are used mainly to alleviate mild lower back pain.
