Molecular assay reagents designed for the determination of the precise sequence of the nucleotides (e.g., adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine for DNA) in a sample of nucleic acid. These reagents are intended mainly to process nucleic acid samples to prepare them for sequence detection and to perform the actual detection steps of nucleotide sequence determination. Typically, the sequence of nucleotides for the analyzed portion of the sample (i.e., read lengths as long as several hundred base pairs) is determined and then displayed and/or printed after computer-based interpretation. Nucleic acid sequencing reagents are used in clinical laboratories to obtain the actual sequence of nucleotides in nucleic acid samples either for diagnosis or research.
