Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies to species of the genus Candida, yeast-like imperfect fungi of the family Cryptococcaceae. Candida fungi are part of the normal flora of the skin, mouth, intestinal tract, and vagina; some species may cause superficial infection of the moist cutaneous areas of the body (i.e., candidiasis). The fungi may also infect the blood stream (i.e., deep candidiasis), frequently in immunocompromised patients.
