Serology reagents intended to detect and/or identify antigens or serum antibody titers to Arenavirus, a genus of enveloped single-stranded RNA viruses of the family Arenaviridae. Some types of this virus may cause acute hemorrhagic fever in humans (e.g., Lassa, Machupo, Junin, Guanarito, Sabia); other types may rarely infect humans infrequently causing mild diseases (e.g., Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis virus may cause aseptic meningitis or an influenza-like illness). Each type of arenavirus is usually associated with a particular rodent species by which diseases are transmitted to humans.
