Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to species of Toxoplasma, a genus of coccidian protozoa of the suborder Eimeriina. Toxoplasma species (e.g., Toxoplasma gondii) cause toxoplasmosis, an acute or chronic disease transmitted by the feces of cats or via tissue cysts in infected meat. Most infections are mild and self-limited, but extensive damage (e.g., to the brain, eyes, cardiac muscle) may occur, usually in immunocompromised patients or in fetuses infected by transplacental transmission.
