Molecular assay reagents intended to identify species of Toxoplasma, a genus of obligate intracellular coccidian protozoa parasites, by detecting genetic information of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of the target parasite. Some species of these parasites may cause toxoplasmosis, a mild and self-limited infection, but extensive damage (e.g., to the brain, eyes, cardiac muscle) may occur, mostly in immunocompromised patients or through transplacental transmission to a fetus.
