Serology reagents intended to detect antibodies to species of Listeria, a genus of bacteria closely resembling bacteria of the family Corynebacteriaceae. A species of these bacteria (i.e., Listeria monocytogenes) is the etiologic agent of listeriosis, which causes in utero infection that can cause abortion, stillbirth, or premature birth; infections acquired during birth can cause cardiorespiratory distress, diarrhea, vomiting, and meningitis. Infection in adults can produce meningitis, endocarditis, and disseminated granulomatous lesions.
