Molecular assay reagents intended to identify Enterococcus, a genus of spherical-to-ovoid bacteria (cocci) of the family Streptococcaceae, by detecting specific genetic information of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of the target bacteria. Some species of the Enterococcus genus are part of the common flora of the intestinal tract of humans, but some (e.g., E. faecalis) can cause urinary tract infections, endocarditis, and bacteremia.
