Molecular assay reagents intended to identify Borrelia burgdorferi, an intracellular bacterium of the family Spirochaetaceae, by detecting specific genetic information of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of the target bacteria. Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria cause Lyme disease (i.e., Lyme borreliosis), acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans, and erythema chronicum migrans. These bacteria are typically transmitted by a parasitic tick of the genus Ixodes.
