Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine antinuclear histone proteins (e.g., H1, H2A, H2B, H3, H4) antibodies. Increased circulating levels are associated with autoimmune connective tissue (e.g., systemic lupus erythematosus), chronic hepatitis, and inflammatory rheumatic diseases. High levels of histones are also found in response to long treatments with some therapeutic agents (e.g., procainamide, hydralazine).
