Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine protein tyrosine phosphatase antibodies (IA-2). These antibodies are found in patients during the development of diabetes mellitus caused by autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta-cell. Measurement of IA-2 antibodies level is mostly used as a preclinical screen test to predict the development of diabetes in close relatives of patients with type I (i.e., insulin dependent) diabetes.
