Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (usually whole blood) in a short period of time, typically several minutes, to determine substances liberated from the myocardium into the plasma (i.e., cardiac markers). The type and level of liberated substances (typically proteins or enzymes) are used in the diagnoses of the occurrence and extension of heart damage, mostly as the result of myocardial infarction.
