Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum) to determine gastric inhibitory polypeptide (GIP), a hormone secreted by the K cells of the duodenal and jejunal mucosa. GIP hormone is related to the stimulation of insulin secretion, the reduction of intestinal motility, and also with gastric acid inhibition. Increased levels of GIP are found in GIP-dependent Cushing\'s syndrome, renal failure, and in some diabetic patients.
