?:definition
  • Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine monoethylglycinexylidide (MEGX), a lidocaine metabolite that has nearly identical toxic equivalence as lidocaine. Determination of MEGX in serum after lidocaine injection is used in assessing hepatic function; high levels of MEGX in serum indicate good liver function. These assays are used either in the screening for liver disease or to assess liver donors and candidates for liver transplantation.
