?:definition
  • Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses of a sample on a body fluid sample (typically urine) to determine free or protein-bound deoxypyridinoline (lysylpyridinoline), a nonreducible cross-link that stabilizes the mature collagen chains within the extracellular matrix. It is found in bone and dentine. Increased levels of deoxypyridinoline in urine occur during bone resorption (pyridinoline is a marker of bone resorption); they are associated with high-turnover osteoporosis, hypercalcemia due to malignancy, and other diseases with high bone resorption. Deoxypyridinoline in urine is a more specific marker of bone degradation than pyridinoline.
