Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine proteins. The presence or level of these proteins is altered by activation or mutation of genes associated with malignancies, either hematologic (e.g., leukemia) or with solid tumors. The determination of these proteins (e.g., ErbB-2, c-Abl, bcl-2) may be used for diagnosis, assessment of progress, monitoring of treatment, or differentiation of cancers (e.g., larynx, prostatic adenocarcinoma). Unlike other tumor markers oncogenes and their encoded protein products can be identified with specific biological processes regulating cell growth, such as cell cycle, angiogenesis, apoptosis, and cell adhesion.
