Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (e.g., serum) to determine chromogranin A (CgA), a soluble protein secreted by the adrenal medulla. CgA is a sensitive and specific tumor marker for various types of neuroendocrine tumors, its determination is mostly used as a general tumor marker in some carcinoid and endocrine pancreatic tumors without clinical hormone-related symptoms (i.e., nonfunctioning tumors). The determination of the CgA level is also used as a serum marker for diagnosis and therapeutic monitoring in patients with neuroendocrine tumors.
