Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample to determine lactoferrin (Lf), a plasma glycoprotein that irreversibly binds to iron. Its action-making activity prevents microbacterial access to iron. Lactoferrin levels are useful in determining pancreatic function; they may be also associated to chronic liver diseases and to the stage of AIDS patients.
