Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum) to determine immunoglobulin (Ig) molecules with identical structures as a product of a single clone of plasma cells (i.e., monoclonal immunoglobulins, also called paraproteins). They may be polymers, monomers, or fragments of immunoglobulin molecules. The presence of monoclonal immunoglobulins in serum is used to diagnose some malignant neoplasms such as multiple myeloma or plasmacytoma; high levels of them are also found in patients with lymphomas.
