Hematology reagents used in screening tests to determine the time required to form a fibrin clot when calcium chloride, partial thromboplastin, and an activator (to ensure maximal activation of factor XII) are added to a sample of plasma. This assay is a measure of possible factor deficiencies of the intrinsic and a common pathway of coagulation; it is also used to monitor heparin therapy.
