Reagents available as a home-test kits that permit the rapid determination (typically a few minutes) of one or more analytes of interest in a sample of whole blood. Whole blood kits for home use permit patients to check and/or control the levels of substances (e.g., glucose) that characterize a specific illness (e.g., diabetes) or to follow the progress of medical treatments (e.g., lowering of cholesterol). Frequently these kits include a paper strip (reagent strip) that changes a color when reacting with a particular analyte.
