Serology reagents intended to detect immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies to rubella virus, an RNA virus of the genus Rubivirus, family Togaviridae. Rubella virus is the cause of an acute, usually benign infection, often affecting children; the disease is characterized by a pink rash beginning on the head and spreading to become generalized. Transplacental infection of a fetus may occur. Rubella is also called German measles and, in French and Spanish, rubeola.
