Clinical chemistry reagents intended to determine the level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) in a sample of whole blood in a short period of time, typically several minutes (i.e., rapid tests). High levels of HDL-C in blood (typically defined as more than 35 mg/dL) are associated with low risk of atherosclerosis and coronary artery diseases; the absence of HDL-C is characteristic of a cerebrovascular disorder known as Tangier disease.
