Clinical chemistry reagents intended to determine the level of glucose in a sample of whole blood in a short period of time, typically several minutes (i.e., rapid tests). High levels of glucose (hyperglycemia) are typically caused by diabetes mellitus, a group of metabolic disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in which glucose is underutilized; decreased levels of glucose (hypoglycemia) are found in several diseases in children and adults.
