?:definition
  • Clinical chemistry reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative chemical analysis in a sample of a body fluid (typically serum, urine, or sweat) to determine the chloride electrolyte (Cl-) level. A high level of chloride in plasma (hyperchloremia) is associated with dehydration, renal tubular disease, diabetes insipidus and several intoxications; a low level (hypochloremia) is associated with chronic pyelonephritis, Addison\'s disease, and metabolic acidosis. The determination of the concentration of chloride and sodium in sweat is used as a diagnostic test for cystic fibrosis.
