Clinical chemistry reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative chemical analysis in a sample of a body fluid (typically serum, but plasma can be used) to determine the level of free calcium electrolyte (Ca++), approximately 50% of the total calcium content in blood. A high level of calcium in serum (i.e., hypercalcemia) is mostly caused by primary hyperparathyroidism and/or malignancies.
