Clinical chemistry reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative chemical analysis of body fluids (typically serum) to determine the total level of lipoproteins and/or to measure particular lipids (e.g., high-, intermediate-, and low-density lipoproteins; triglycerides). High levels of total lipoproteins and/or of one or several lipids are associated with atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease (CAD), and sometimes with pancreatitis; low levels may be related to malabsorption, mental retardation, and increased or decreased risk of CAD.
