Microbiology reagents intended to identify species of bacteria of the genus Haemophilus; many species of Haemophilus family Pasteurellaceae; bacteria are part of the normal flora of the upper respiratory tract. Haemophilus bacteria include several pathologic species, such as H. influenzae (bacterial meningitis), H. parainfluenzae (bacterial endocarditis), and H. aegyptius (purulent conjunctivitis). Haemophilus identification reagents may be specific for either manual or automated tests; frequently, these tests are combined with tests to identify Neisseria bacteria.
