Tourniquets designed to circumferentially constrict/compress an extremity for a limited period of time to control venous and arterial blood flow with a non-inflatable strap. These tourniquets usually consist of a plain (e.g., rubber, fabric) elastic band that may include some means (e.g., clips) for fixing around the limb. Strap non-inflatable tourniquets are used mainly for phlebotomy and/or intravenous infusion procedures; dedicated tourniquets are also available for use in emergency situations to control hemorrhage.
