Lower-limb ankle orthoses designed for maximum restriction of movements and/or total immobilization of the ankle joint. These immobilizers usually consist of prefabricated or custom-made orthoses, including semi-rigid leg cuffs and foot components that unload the pressure on the ankle joint, reducing partially or completely its motion. Immobilizer ankle orthoses are intended mainly to reduce the pressure on the ankle during rehabilitation after traumatic injuries or ankle surgery.
