  • Digital data copiers designed to make copies of a computer hard drive. These copiers usually consist of a high-speed automated portable electromechanical unit that can make one or more partial (i.e., sector by sector) or total copies from a computer hard drive to other hard drives; the copiers usually include electronic circuits, mechanisms, controls, and appropriate holders for the hard drives to be copied. The copiers may work simultaneously with drives that have different interfaces, such as universal serial bus (USB), or serial attachments (i.e., SATA); most copiers work using a proprietary firmware. Hard drive copiers may provide also test reading of the disk sectors; they may also include a security erasing procedure that guarantees that no unwanted information is left on the hard disk.
