  • Prepackaged collections of the necessary devices and supplies (either custom or standard) needed for transcatheter delivery of implantable aortic valves (i.e., the valves that direct the blood output from the left ventricle to the aorta). Items in these kits usually include (1) the implantable endoprostheses (i.e., the valve, typically a made of bovine or pig pericardium tissue leaflets attached to a mesh metal frame, (2) catheters that include a compliant section near the distal end for valve delivery and deployment, and (3) balloons to facilitate implant deployment. The valve is introduced in the vasculature through a percutaneous (femoral, subclavian) or direct transaortic (between two ribs) catheter; the kit may include also an expandable introducers sheath. When the valve reaches the right location the balloons are inflated placing the valve in place; then the catheter is retracted. The entire procedure is performed using fluoroscopic guidance for insertion to check for proper functioning of the valve. Aortic valve delivery kits include catheters and balloons in a variety of sizes to fit patient needs, the kits are used in a percutaneous transcatheter procedures used to substitute stenotic aortic valves.
