?:definition
  • Manikins designed to resemble the whole human body of an adult person. Adult manikins consist of an accurate three-dimensional integral or dissectible representation of the body. They may include as components organs (e.g., liver, heart), anatomic systems (e.g., skeletal, nervous, and muscular), and or other structures (nasal cavities, middle ear) of the human anatomy. Manikins are made of natural (e.g., hair, bones, wood, metals) and/or synthetic (e.g., plastics, silicone rubber) materials or a combination of these. Manikins intended to simulate the anatomy of male and female adults are available. Adult manikins are used for demonstration and learning the different structures of the anatomy and/or to learn how to manipulate the human body during other activities (e.g., water rescue). Adult manikins may be combined with other dedicated devices and/or computerized systems to calibrate or test medical devices, and/or as components of simulators for training (e.g., particular examination, therapeutic, surgical, or postmortem procedures).
