?:definition
  • Inflatable cuffs designed to exert a pressure on the circumference of an extremity by means of a compressed gas. These devices typically include a bladder within the cuff that is inflated through tubes that run from the bladder connectors to the source of compressed air located in a tourniquet, circulatory assist unit, automated sphygmomanometer or other device. The cuff is fastened to the extremity using contact mechanisms (e.g., clips or hook-and-loop fasteners) and frequently secured with an external ribbon. Pneumatic cuffs designed for use with a variety of devices, including tourniquets, automated sphygmomanometers, and peripheral compression units, are also available.
