  • Carts designed for organized storage, transport, and to provide ready access to small equipment, instruments, labware, and/or chemicals inside laboratories. They may also include a working surface (e.g., the top of the cabinet) intended to perform laboratory procedures. These carts typically include an open shelf or an enclosed cabinet-like structure; enclosed carts may have multiple drawers or shelves and sliding or hinged glass or stainless steel doors. They are usually made of wood, laminates, metals (including stainless steel), or other materials that permit an ease of cleaning and/or sterilization. Some laboratory carts also include security locks and/or special compartments for materials. Laboratory carts are used mainly in clinical laboratories, but they may be used to store and/or manipulate chemical products in doctor\'s offices, and dental, orthopedic, and ophthalmologic laboratories and/or workshops. Dedicated laboratory carts are available for transportation of hazardous chemicals, drums, and other laboratory supplies.
