  • Projectors designed to project photographic positive images mounted or printed on transparent films that are larger than the original on a surface (e.g., screen) to facilitate watching by a large number of people. These projectors usually consist of electric-powered equipment that includes a power supply, lights (e.g., halogen lamps), lenses, electronic circuitry, controls (e.g., focus, brightness), slide holders (e.g., discs) and/or carrousels carrying a set of multiple slides and other attachments that permit the projection of images with the appropriate optical characteristics necessary for slide projection; some projectors may include as a component the screen intended for projection of the images. Dedicated projectors that include high-powered lights and a long arm with a mirror and lenses on top of the projector (known as overhead projectors) typically used for a very large number of viewers are also available. Slide projectors are used for simultaneous viewing of photographic slides for analysis of diagnostic results and also for educational purposes. Dedicated slide projectors intended for eye charts are also available.
