?:definition
  • Workstations designed to process and store health-related digital data and images from patients; the information may be provided by the patient, healthcare staff, healthcare information system, and/or by instruments, recorders, and monitors that may be integral to the workstation. Basic healthcare workstations are intended to obtain data from the patient and the healthcare information system during a self-registration (check-in) process; other healthcare workstations are intended to facilitate diagnosis and/or monitoring of patients. Healthcare workstations are frequently placed in installations known as medical kiosks; they typically consist of mobile computerized units that include input devices (e.g., keypads, touch-screens), output devices (e.g., monitors, printers), and electronic memories and processors; they may also include interfaces with healthcare information systems and physiologic measuring devices, monitors, and recorders. Healthcare workstations may be intended for check-in administrative data, for monitoring and/or diagnoses either operated by the patient or by the healthcare staff to provide a comprehensive set of tests. In addition to healthcare settings these stations may be available in pharmacies and other non-clinical locations.
