Pens designed to perform handwriting and simultaneous digitization, including identification, conversion, storage, and/or sending the written information as digital data. These pens consist of devices including a standard ballpoint pen, a digital camera, electronic circuits, a digital memory, and a wireless transmitter. The pens permit the user to manually write on a special dotted paper; the pen reads, digitizes, and records the information in real time using images from the internal camera when the user starts writing. The information is usually transmitted to a computer or other information system once a complete form is filled at the point of care. Additional capabilities of the pen may include identification of the user and time and place of digitization. Handwriting digitization pens are intended to introduce data in digital information systems directly from the user handwriting.
