Radiofrequency (RF) coils designed for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures. These coils typically consist of a number of independent antennas placed on or around the patient; most surface coils are intended for receiving (but some may also transmit) RF signals. MRI coils are different sizes and configurations according to the anatomy to be included in the image. Most MRI systems include a built-in whole body coil. Magnetic resonance imaging coils are usually compatible with only one or a few specific models of MRI equipment.
