Urinary tract surgery retractor kits designed for use during procedures involving the prostate, kidneys, and associated tissues and anatomic structures of the urinary tract. These kits typically consist of a collection of devices, instruments, and supplies that are combined to temporarily separate and retain the perineal or abdominal wall tissue, exposing and/or giving access to the prostate or kidneys, without manual support once they are set (i.e., self-retained). The retractors frequently consist of a flexible segmental ring, a set of blades of different sizes usually providing lateral retraction, a ratchet mechanism to adjust retractor tension, and a fixation post that is usually attached to the operating table. The kits may incorporate fiber optic systems to illuminate the surgical site. Urinary tract retractor kits provide hands-free assistance to the surgeon during procedures involving the urinary tract, such as nephrotomy and perineal prostatectomy; dedicated urinary tract retractor kits with other physical configurations are also available.
