Surgical retractors designed to temporarily separate and hold back tissues (e.g., periosteal) other than bone in the knee joint, exposing and providing access to other tissues, bones, or structures of the joint during orthopedic procedures. These retractors are typically manual, handheld instruments available in a variety of shapes and sizes and are selected according to the tissue of the knee articulation that is retracted and/or the anatomical structure to be exposed. Knee joint tissue retractors are used in many orthopedic reconstructive procedures and/or after trauma; dedicated retractors intended for the whole knee, the patella, collateral ligaments and other knee structures are also available.
